4.3: Professional Development

In the beginning of our passion project I started off just thinking that all I was going to have to do was to create a Kahoot game and then I was going to present it at the end of the year and that was going to be my final grade for integrating gaming in the classroom. But nope turns out there was a whole lot more than to just create a game.

I finished by documenting my overall experience and process of doing this project with all the sources I was recommended to by Dr. J and then all the sources I discovered while on this journey.

I learned so much more than I thought I was going to while doing this project. I learned that teachers develop games themselves so they can use in their classroom to teach their students. I also learned that there are some solid research on the fact that gaming benefits the mind. Along with this research there was some dead-ends where I did have to back track which were finding online games that were up to date because some of the online was that I found in the beginning were outdated and did not work.

My goal for using games in my classroom is to help my students get a better understanding of what it was like for people in that time instead of just telling or lecturing them about what happened. The games I talk about in my BLOG are for reviewing over material to make sure my students get a better understanding of the material we learned as a class like kahoot or Trashball. The games I want students to get a better understanding of what it was like at that time period are computer games referred to by McCall or by playing the game Stratego.
