Reflection

As I am writing this reflection I was thinking about what Dr. J (not the NBA Hall of Famer) my Education Technology professor had assigned for the class. Dr. J assigned our class homework to reflect on our “Glows and Grows” from our Northstar Digital Assessment, Sparks that interest us from the class, readings, and technology we have come across and our online reading survey.

The Glows and Grows

The glows I discovered from my Northstar Digital Assessment was from getting badges in basic computer skills, using email, Mac OS, Microsoft word, powerpoint, excel. When I submitted my answers for Microsoft word, powerpoint, and excel I was a little shocked because I am actually certified with working with those programs but I have not really played around with them as much lately. I also got my badge in social media and information literacy. Being tested for these online blocks was very eye opening because I honestly did not notice how much I knew about computers. So I was really surprised with my results.

The grows I could I make were minor but the biggest grow I think would be in career search skills which I failed and needed so many improvements. I also needed some improvements with information literacy but they were very minor but still have room for improvements.

Online Reading Survey

For my online reading survey which was a survey asking some basic questions like do I have access to internet at home, do I have internet abled devices, what social media platforms do I use. Then it starts to ask if I prefer to read articles, news, homework readings and assignments on digital or paper. To me personally I prefer everything to be paper or book because if it is digital I cannot edit it how I want to or if my laptop or phone dies or crashes I will be out of luck to access it so I need things in a physical copy. Although I do like to read some things digitally for personal interest like an article on movies, music, or stuff that personally interest me.

Spark

What sparked me so far is definitely the class in general. I did not know what to expect out of this class. So far this it is very eye opening to me because I did not know how much technology integrates with being a teacher, connecting with the students, and using technology in the classroom. I really enjoy this class and I am excited to demo any of the technology that is introduced to me because I believe all of these sources can be beneficial to me and my future.

Thanks for stopping by!

  1. Sounds like you’re feeling pretty confident about the assessment results. Some history resources you might follow up on from the Connected Learning Project at the Digital Media Hub follow. Let me know if anything sparks your interest: https://dmlhub.net/wp-content/uploads/files/teaching-in-the-CL-classroom.pdf (check out the chapters about interactive zines, service learning and social action to start. I look forward to your thoughts!

Another one of my favorite history focused resources is the Facing History site. They’ve got a few interesting posts about technology here: https://facingtoday.facinghistory.org/best-of-2014-top-5-facing-technology-blog-posts
